Burrow use is central to their daily routine.  A single Giant Armadillo may maintain several burrows within its territory and rotate among them.  These burrows provide thermal insulation, protection from predators, and crucial resting places after long hours of nighttime activity.

Poaching, while not as widespread as with some other species, does occur.  In some regions, armadillos are hunted for meat or captured for traditional medicine. Additionally, encounters with roads often end fatally, as the armadillos’ slow pace and lack of fear of vehicles leave them vulnerable to collisions. Fortunately, conservation efforts are growing. Protected areas like national parks and biological reserves provide refuge for some populations.  Conservation programs in Brazil, such as the Pantanal Giant Armadillo Project, have been instrumental in raising awareness and gathering much-needed data on their habits and distribution.
