Helogale parvula boasts a wide geographic distribution across sub-Saharan Africa.  It is most commonly found in savannahs, open woodlands, and thorn scrub areas where there is an abundance of cover, such as termite mounds, rock outcrops, and fallen logs.  These natural features provide safe dens and observation points. Dwarf mongooses typically live for up to eight years in the wild, though some individuals may reach ten years in areas with low predation pressure.  Their early years are full of learning and play, with young mongooses engaging in mock hunting, wrestling, and chase games to build physical and social skills.

The dwarf mongoose plays a critical role in maintaining balance in its environment.
